Many people work to keep us healthy. Some are not doctors or nurses. These workers are allied health professionals. This is a large group of health workers. They are different from doctors, nurses, and dentists.

These professionals provide many kinds of care. They help find out why people are sick. This is called diagnostic care. They also help people get better after an injury. This is called rehabilitative care. They might work in big hospitals. They may also work in small clinics. Some work in private offices.

These workers need special training. Many must earn a degree or a diploma. They must also follow rules to keep their licenses. They use science to do their jobs well. They use many skills. They might use computers or learn medical words. They also learn how to talk with patients.

There is a big need for these workers. The world needs about 2 million more. This is because people are getting older. Many health workers are also retiring soon. More people want care outside of hospitals. This is called ambulatory care. It happens in places like doctor offices or clinics.
