He played 22 seasons in Major League Baseball (MLB). His career spanned three major teams: the Seattle Mariners, the Texas Rangers, and the New York Yankees. Rodriguez is regarded as one of the greatest baseball players in history. Beyond the field, he serves as the chairman and CEO of A-Rod Corp. He also holds significant interests in business, including the Presidente beer brand and a controlling interest in the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Rodriguez was a rare talent who combined power, speed, and defense. He is the only player in MLB history to achieve a specific set of statistical milestones. These include over 600 home runs, 2,000 runs batted in (RBI), 2,000 runs scored, 3,000 hits, and 300 stolen bases.

He also holds the career record for grand slams, which are home runs hit when all three bases are occupied by runners. Throughout his career, he was a 14-time All-Star. He earned three American League (AL) Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and ten Silver Slugger Awards. He also won two Gold Glove Awards for his defensive skill.

His professional journey began with the Seattle Mariners. The team selected him first overall in the 1993 MLB draft.

He made his major league debut in 1994 at just 18 years old. This made him the youngest position player in Seattle history. By 1996, he was the Mariners' starting shortstop. That season, he won the American League batting title. He also finished second in the MVP voting. During the 2000s decade, he led all players in home runs, RBIs, runs scored, and total bases.

In 2001, Rodriguez moved to the Texas Rangers. He signed a 10-year, $252 million contract. At that time, this was the richest contract in the history of baseball.

He won his first AL MVP award in 2003 while playing for Texas. However, the team did not make the playoffs during his tenure. In 2004, he was traded to the New York Yankees. To accommodate the Yankees' shortstop, Derek Jeter, Rodriguez transitioned to playing third base.

He later signed another massive 10-year, $275 million deal with the Yankees, breaking his own record for the most lucrative contract.

Rodriguez's time with the Yankees included many historic achievements. In 2007, he became the youngest player to hit 500 home runs. He also helped the Yankees win the 2009 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies. This was the only championship title of his career.

As his career progressed, physical challenges emerged. Hip and knee injuries began to affect his performance. Because of these injuries, he eventually became a designated hitter, a player who does not play a defensive position in the field.

His career was also marked by significant controversy regarding performance-enhancing drugs. In 2007, Rodriguez denied using such substances. However, in 2009, he admitted to using steroids while playing for the Rangers from 2001 to 2003. He stated he did this due to an "enormous amount of pressure" to perform. Later, in 2013, he was involved in the Biogenesis scandal. MLB initially announced a 211-game suspension for his involvement. Following an arbitration hearing, the suspension was reduced to 162 games. This meant he missed the entire 2014 baseball season.

After his final professional game on August 12, 2016, Rodriguez transitioned into media and business. He has worked as a broadcaster for Fox Sports and a contributor to ABC News.
