It is the brightest star in that group. You can find it by looking near Orion. It looks like a red dot in the night sky.

Aldebaran is a red giant star. This means it is much larger than our Sun.

It is about 45 times wider than the Sun. Because it is so big, it is very bright. It is 439 times more luminous than our Sun. The star grew this way because it used up its hydrogen. Hydrogen is the fuel that stars use to make power. When the fuel ran out, the star changed.

This star is about 67 light-years away. A light-year is the distance light travels in one year. Aldebaran has a small companion star named Alpha Tauri B. This second star is very faint. It is 80,000 to 96,000 times fainter than Aldebaran.
