He was born in Lima on July 26, 1938. His parents moved to Peru from Japan in 1934. Fujimori grew up speaking Spanish, Japanese, and English. He was very good at school and studied many things. He became an agricultural engineer and a math teacher. He even worked as a university rector before he entered politics. This background in science and teaching helped him start his career.

In 1990, Fujimori became the president of Peru.

At that time, the country was facing many hard problems. The economy was in chaos due to something called hyperinflation. There was also violence from a group known as the Shining Path. To fix the economy, Fujimori used a plan called "Fujishock." This plan changed how money and markets worked in the country. He wanted to bring balance back to the nation through these new rules.

Fujimori's time in power changed how the government worked. In 1992, he took more control over the country. He dissolved the Peruvian Congress and the Supreme Court. This action is called a "self-coup." By doing this, he became a dictator with most of the power. He also wrote a new constitution in 1993. Many people in the business world liked his changes. However, many other leaders and countries criticized his actions.

While he was president, many serious things happened in Peru.

The military used force to fight the Shining Path. This fighting led to the deaths of many innocent people. His government was also accused of many human rights violations. For example, a plan called Plan Verde led to forced sterilizations of indigenous people. There were also many cases of corruption and extrajudicial killings. These events made his leadership very controversial.

His time as president ended in a sudden way. In 2000, after his third election, people found proof of corruption.
