In 2009, it increased its stake in Cathay Pacific from 17.5% to 30%. 
The airline has implemented many technological and service innovations. In 2010, it became the first Chinese airline to offer combined tickets. These tickets connect domestic flights with shuttle bus services to nearby cities. This makes traveling from places like Tianjin to Beijing much easier. In 2011, Air China became the first Chinese carrier to offer free Wi-Fi on board. This service is designed for use with tablets and laptops. By 2013, the airline successfully tested Wireless LAN in flight. This was the first global satellite internet flight in Mainland China.
Air China maintains a diverse fleet of modern aircraft to manage its many routes. The fleet includes models from several different manufacturers. It uses Airbus models like the A320, A330, and the A350-900. It also operates Boeing aircraft, including the 737, 777-300ER, and the 787-9. Furthermore, the airline uses aircraft from Comac, such as the C909 and C919-100ER. The Boeing 777-300ER serves as the backbone for many long-haul operations.
