In the Zoroastrian faith, many people believe in a spirit of evil. This spirit is called Ahriman. He is the main enemy of the good spirit. He is also the enemy of Ahura Mazda, the highest god. Ahriman represents things that cause harm or disorder. He is often seen as the opposite of what is good.

Some old stories tell us how Ahriman came to be. One group of believers thought he was a twin brother to the good god. They believed they were both born from a god named Zurvan. In these stories, Ahriman was born from a moment of doubt. This made him the symbol of evil.

Other texts say Ahriman creates hard things in our world. He is said to make sickness and cold winters. He also makes dangerous storms. Some books say he creates monsters to fight the good side. Even so, many people believe he cannot win. They believe the good side will win in the end. People can help the good side by using good thoughts, words, and deeds.
