It lives in hot, dry lands. These trees can live for a very long time. One tree in Zimbabwe lived for about 2,450 years!

Baobabs have very wide trunks. They use these trunks to store water. A large tree can hold 136,400 liters of water. This helps them survive when there is no rain. The tree has special cells called parenchyma. These cells act like tiny storage tanks for water.

In the dry season, the tree loses its leaves. It stays without leaves for eight months. This helps the tree save its water. The tree also has thick bark. This bark can heal even if it is hurt.
