What happens when two different cultures meet? This process is called acculturation. It is like learning a second culture.

People might move to a new place. They might learn new foods or songs. They might even change how they dress.

Acculturation can happen in many ways. Some people try to fit in completely. They might leave their old ways behind. Others keep their own traditions very close. They hold onto their original values. Some people do both. They blend parts of the new culture with their old one.

This can change a whole group. It can change how people pray or how they stay healthy. It can even change a language. This process can take a long time. It often spans many generations.

Some thinkers have many ideas about this. Eric Kramer says learning is an expansion. He believes you do not have to unlearn who you are. You can learn a new dance or a new language. You can add these new skills to your life. This helps people grow without losing themselves.
