This tree has a very specific way it works. The leaves are shaped like long needles. They are a dark, glossy green on the top side. On the bottom, they have two white bands. These bands are called stomata. These tiny parts help the tree. The tree also grows long, broad cones. Each cone has about 150 to 200 scales. When the cones are mature, they fall apart. This lets the winged seeds fall out to grow.

It is strong and lightweight. People use it to make furniture and paper. The wood is also used for building things. Some people even use the branches to make spruce beer.

Many things in nature connect to the silver fir. It was the first tree used as a Christmas tree. It has a nice, cone shape. It also stays fresh for a long time after being cut. Small bugs called aphids sit on the tree. They make a sweet liquid called honeydew. Honey bees collect this liquid to make fir honey. This shows how the tree helps other living things.
