Things changed quickly in the year 1911. An armed rebellion started in Wuchang on October 10. This was called the Wuchang Uprising. It was led by members of the New Army. After this, many provinces joined the movement. They all stopped following the Qing dynasty. The government began to lose its control. This led to a very busy time of change.

New leaders took charge during this time. Sun Yat-sen became the first president in 1912. A leader named Yuan Shikai also played a big role. He was the head of the Beiyang Army. Yuan helped negotiate with the revolutionaries. On February 12, 1912, the young Xuantong Emperor stepped down. This was a very important moment for China. Yuan Shikai was sworn in as president on March 10, 1912.

Today, people still remember this revolution. Both Taiwan and China honor these ideas. They value nationalism and national unity. They also value the goal of modernization. October 10 is a special day of celebration. In Taiwan, it is the National Day. In China, it is the Anniversary of the 1911 Revolution. The revolution shaped the modern world we see today.
