Yothu Yindi is a famous music group from Australia. Their name means "child and mother" in the Yolngu language. The band was formed in 1986. It started when two different bands joined together. One group played rock music. The other group was an Aboriginal folk band. They wanted to mix these two styles.

The band uses many different instruments. They play guitars and drums for rock music. They also use traditional tools. These include the yidaki, which is a didgeridoo. They also use bilma, which are ironwood clapsticks. They even use traditional Yolngu dances in their shows. This music helps people respect different cultures.

Their song "Treaty" became very famous in 1991. It reached number 11 on the music charts. The band also made the Yothu Yindi Foundation. This group helps Yolngu culture grow. They help run the Garma Festival of Traditional Cultures. The band even played at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000. They use music to help young people stay in school.
