At that time, Amir was a law student. He was also very religious. He grew up in a family with eight children. His father was a scribe. A scribe is a person who writes holy books.

Amir was against a peace plan called the Oslo Accords. He took part in many protests. After he killed Rabin, he went to court. The judges said he was fit to stand trial. They found him guilty of murder. They also said he hurt a bodyguard named Yoram Rubin. Amir was given a life sentence. He also received extra years for the injury.

Amir does not feel sorry for what he did. Some groups want him to be free. However, a law was passed to stop this. This law says the president cannot pardon an assassin of a prime minister.
