X-rays are a special type of light. They are a form of electromagnetic radiation. This means they are a type of energy that travels in waves.

X-ray applications

X-rays have very short wavelengths. They also have very high energy.

A scientist named Wilhelm Röntgen discovered them in 1895. He was working with glass tubes. He saw a faint green glow on a screen nearby. He realized invisible rays were passing through his equipment.

He even took the first X-ray of a human hand. It was his wife's hand.

X-rays are very useful because they can penetrate many things. They can pass through paper, books, and soft body tissue.

Because they pass through soft parts, they can show bones. Doctors use them to check for broken bones. They also use them to find objects inside the body.

However, X-rays can be dangerous. They are a type of ionizing radiation. This means they can cause damage to your DNA. Too much exposure can cause burns or sickness. Because of this, people must use them very carefully.
