It is one of the nine national central cities in China. Because it is so large, it is the seventh-most-populous city in the country.

People often call it "the Chicago of China" because it is a huge hub for travel. Many railways, roads, and expressways pass through the city to connect it to other places.

Two great rivers shape the way the city looks and works. The Yangtze River and its largest tributary, the Han River, meet right in the middle of the city.

These rivers divide the city into three main areas. These are Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang. They are known as the "Three Towns of Wuhan."

The name "Wuhan" actually comes from combining these towns together. The riverfront is a very busy area for trading and moving goods.

Wuhan has a history that goes back 3,500 years.

Long ago, the area was controlled by different states like the State of E and the State of Chu. In the year 223, the famous Yellow Crane Tower was built on the Wuchang side of the river.

Today, Wuhan is a leader in science and making things. It is a major center for research and education.
