He works at a school called MIT.

Wolfgang studies how to cool atoms down. He makes them very cold. He tries to reach absolute zero. This is the coldest temperature possible. In 1995, his group found a special state. They found Bose-Einstein condensation. This is when atoms act in a new way.

He also made an atom laser. This works like a light laser. It uses atoms instead of light. Because of this work, he won a Nobel Prize. He won it in 2001. He shared the prize with two other men.

Wolfgang is also a fast runner. He ran the Boston Marathon. He finished the race in 2013. His time was 2:49:16. In 2014, he ran even faster. He finished in 2:44:06. He likes to run in the early dusk. He even took his running shoes to his prize ceremony!
