He wanted to change how people read the Bible. Many people at that time could not read it in English. Tyndale believed everyone should understand the holy words. He became a key figure in the Protestant Reformation. This was a time of big changes in religious ideas. His work helped spread these new ideas across the English-speaking world.

Tyndale did his work in a very special way. He was the first to translate English Scriptures directly from Hebrew and Greek texts.

He also used the new printing press to make many copies. This was the first English Bible to use such technology. He was even the first to use the name "Jehovah" for God. His translation choices were so good that later English Bibles used them too.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1512. Later, he became a Master of Arts in 1515. He was a master of many languages. He spoke Latin, Greek, Hebrew, French, German, Italian, and Spanish. He also studied at the University of Cambridge between 1517 and 1521.

His ideas caused many problems with powerful leaders. In 1528, he wrote a book called "The Obedience of a Christian Man."

This book argued that kings should control the Church in their own lands. King Henry VIII read this and used it to break away from the Catholic Church in 1534. Tyndale also wrote "The Practice of Prelates" in 1530. This book opposed the King's plans and made Tyndale an enemy of the state.

Because of these views, Tyndale had to flee England. He traveled to places like Germany and Belgium.
