William Fox was a big name in movies.

He was born in Hungary. His family moved to New York City when he was a baby.

As a young boy, William worked to help his family. He sold candy and newspapers in a park. He also worked in a clothing shop.

William loved to build theaters. He started the Fox Film Corporation in 1914. He also built many grand Fox Theatres in big cities. These were in places like San Francisco and Detroit. He even helped make movies with sound. He used a new system called Movietone. This helped movies sound much better.

Life was not always easy for him. A car accident hurt him badly. Then, the stock market crashed. This caused him to lose his money and his company. He faced many legal battles after that.

Even though he lost his business, his name stayed famous. Many groups like Fox News still use his name today. He died in 1952. He was 73 years old.
