He lived in London for most of his life.

He was a poet, a painter, and an engraver. An engraver makes art by cutting lines into metal.

As a child, Blake had many visions. He said he saw angels near haystacks. He also saw the face of God. These ideas shaped his art and his poems. He loved the power of the human mind. He believed imagination was a very important part of life.

Blake did not work alone. He married a woman named Catherine Boucher. They worked together for many years. Catherine was a skilled artist too. She helped him make his books. She mixed colors and added them to his prints. They made almost everything themselves. This included the very ink they used. Blake's work is part of the Romantic movement. This was a time of big new ideas in art. Today, people highly value his unique and creative style.
