*White Teeth* is a famous novel written by the British author Zadie Smith. It was first published in the year 2000. The story takes place in the busy city of London. It tells the lives of two friends who met during World War II. One man is an Englishman named Archie Jones. His friend is a man from Bangladesh named Samad Iqbal.

The book shows how different families grow and change over time. It looks at how people from the British Commonwealth move to live in Britain. We see the daughter of Archie, a girl named Irie. We also see the twin sons of Samad, named Magid and Millat. These two families have lives that become very mixed up with each other. The story explores how history and culture shape who people are.

Samad has very strong traditional beliefs. He wants his twin sons to grow up following his religion and culture. To help them, he sends Magid to live in Bangladesh for a while. This choice leads the brothers down very different paths. Magid becomes a man of science who loves studying facts. Millat becomes a rebel who often gets into trouble.

Another family in the book is called the Chalfens. They are a middle-class family living in North London. The father, Marcus Chalfen, is a scientist who studies genes. He works on a project called FutureMouse. In this project, he changes the genes of a mouse to see how it grows. This work is very controversial because it involves changing living things.

*White Teeth* has won many important prizes for its writing. It won the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 2000. It also won the Whitbread Book Award for the best first novel. *Time* magazine even included it on a list of the 100 best English-language novels. In 2022, it was chosen as one of 70 books to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of Elizabeth II.
