He was born in Indiana in 1949. He went to Purdue University. There, he studied engineering and computer science.

Cunningham is best known for making the first wiki. A wiki is a website that lets people edit pages together. He started the first one, called WikiWikiWeb, in 1995. He did not want to patent the idea. He thought no one would pay for it. He also helped write the Manifesto for Agile Software Development. This is a set of rules for making software.

He also came up with a funny idea. People call it Cunningham's Law. It says the best way to get a right answer is to post a wrong one. This is because people love to fix mistakes. He also helped create software design patterns. These are common ways to solve coding problems.

Cunningham has worked for many places. He worked at Microsoft and the Eclipse Foundation. Now, he lives in Oregon. He also uses a radio for fun. He has a special license for it.
