Some lakes, like Lüner Lake, are used for power. People build dams to make hydroelectric energy. This energy is often sent to Germany. At night, energy from Germany is used to pump water back into these lakes.

Vorarlberg has a very long history. Before the Romans arrived, Celtic tribes lived here. The Raeti lived in the highlands. The Vindelici lived in the lowlands near Lake Constance.

The Romans conquered the area in 15 BC. Later, different groups like the Alamanni and Bavarians moved in. In 1919, many people wanted to join Switzerland. They even held a vote on this idea. Most people voted to join, but the plan never happened. Vorarlberg stayed part of Austria.

Today, the state is a very wealthy place. It has many big companies that make things like plastic and lighting.
