A vlog is a video blog. It is a way to share stories using video.

Many vlogs focus on the person making them. They might show a makeup routine or a new recipe. There are two main styles. In a "talking-head" vlog, the camera stays still while the person talks. In a "follow me around" vlog, the person carries the camera. They film clips as they go about their day.

People use many sites to watch vlogs. YouTube is a very popular place for them. In 2005, Jawed Karim uploaded the first YouTube vlog. It was a simple video called "Me at the zoo."

Vlogs help people share their culture. In Brazil, vlogs let people speak up for themselves. In China, Li Ziqi makes videos about traditional food. Her videos show rural life to the whole world. In Japan, people watch vlogs to learn about food and customs.

Some vlogs even help people feel less alone. People who are sad can find comfort in comments from others. Vlogging is a way to make connections with strangers.
