Vladimir Gusinsky was a very successful businessman in Russia. He started many different companies. He built Most Bank, which was a very large bank. In 1994, his bank put in the first ATM in Russia. An ATM is a machine that lets people take out cash.

Gusinsky also owned many media companies. He started a group called Media Most. This group owned NTV, the first private TV channel in Russia. NTV focused on news that was honest and free from control. He also owned newspapers and magazines.

He even had a satellite in space named Bonum 1. This satellite helped send TV shows directly to homes.

Later, things became difficult for him. The Russian government wanted to control the news. In 2000, Gusinsky was arrested. The government wanted him to sell his media companies to a state group. He sold his businesses for 300 million US dollars. After this, he had to leave Russia to stay safe. He has not returned to his home country since then.
