He also held the Ring magazine title and the WBC title twice between 2004 and 2013. In total, he won 15 world heavyweight title fights and completed 12 successful title defenses. 
His career included intense rivalries and significant physical challenges. In 2000, he faced Chris Byrd, which resulted in his first professional defeat. Klitschko suffered a torn rotator cuff, a serious injury to the shoulder joint, which forced him to stop the fight. 
Klitschko and his brother, Wladimir Klitschko, were both multiple world champions. Their period of dominance in the heavyweight division is widely known as the "Klitschko Era." In 2011, the brothers entered the Guinness World Records for having the most world heavyweight title fight wins. At that time, they had 30 wins between them, a number that grew to 40 by 2020. 
Klitschko's transition to politics began formally in 2006 when he ran for mayor of Kyiv. In 2010, he founded a political party called the Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reform, known as UDAR. He was elected to the Ukrainian Parliament in 2012 through this party. Beyond sports and politics, Klitschko is also a highly educated scholar. He holds a Doctoral Degree, or Ph.D., in Sports Science from Kyiv University. As mayor, he has overseen various urban projects, such as the reconstruction of the Rusanivets Stadium.
