A critic reads books and shares deep thoughts. Belinsky was very passionate about his work. He believed that writing must tell the truth. To him, truth meant showing real life. It also meant caring about human dignity. He believed every person has rights.

Belinsky worked for two big magazines. One was called Sovremennik, which means The Contemporary. He worked there with Nikolay Nekrasov. Belinsky was not born into a rich family. His father was a doctor in the countryside. Because of this, Belinsky taught himself much of what he knew. He was often expelled from school for his political ideas.

He used his words to fight for fairness. He spoke out against cruelty and poverty. He wanted society to be better for everyone. His ideas changed how many young writers thought. Even though he died young, people still honor him. In 1910, Russia held a big celebration for him. Many streets were even named after him.
