Virginia E. Johnson was a famous researcher. She studied how the human body works. She worked with a man named William Masters. They were part of a research team.

In 1957, William hired her as an assistant. He taught her about medical words and research. Together, they made special tools. These tools could measure how the body reacts to feeling excited. They used these tools to study 700 men and women.

By watching these people, Virginia helped find four stages of the body's response. This is called the human sexual response cycle. The four stages are excitement, plateau, orgasm, and resolution.

Later, they started a research center in St. Louis. It was called the Masters and Johnson Institute. Virginia helped run the center.

Before her science work, Virginia had other jobs. She was a singer of country music. She also worked as a business writer. She studied music and sociology in college. Virginia died in 2013. Her work helped people understand their bodies much better.
