Victoria Harbour is a natural landform harbour located in Hong Kong.

It serves as a vital maritime gateway and a major global trading hub. Geographically, the harbour separates Hong Kong Island in the south from the Kowloon Peninsula to the north. It is situated within the South China Sea. The harbour is defined by its deep, sheltered waters and its highly strategic location. These physical characteristics helped establish Hong Kong as a British colony in 1841. Today, it remains a central part of the territory's dense urban landscape.

The harbour functions through a complex system of maritime trade and urban transport. As a major port, it hosts an average of 220,000 ships every year. These include both massive oceangoing vessels and smaller river vessels. The Kwai Tsing Container Terminals in the western harbour handle much of this traffic. In 2016, the region processed 19.8 million containers, measured in TEUs. This massive volume of goods is supported by approximately 400 container ships serving Hong Kong weekly. These vessels connect the harbour to over 500 different destinations around the world.

Victoria Harbour is composed of various islands and changing coastlines. Several islands exist within its waters, such as Green Island and Tsing Yi Island. However, the harbour's shape has changed due to land reclamation. Reclamation is the process of creating new land from the sea. Because of this, many former islands are now connected to the mainland. For example, Stonecutters Island and Channel Rock are no longer separate islands. Other examples include Kellett Island, Hoi Sham Island, and Nga Ying Chau. The local geology consists of a granitic copula that is intensely weathered in some areas.

The history of the harbour is documented through ancient and modern records. The first references appear in Zheng He's sailing maps around 1425. A detailed marine chart was later prepared in 1810 by Captain Daniel Ross and Lieutenant Philip Maughan. Originally, the area was called "Hong Kong Harbour." It was later renamed Victoria Harbour to provide shelter for the British fleet under Queen Victoria. In the 1850s, the Victoria Recreation Club held early water sports like swimming and water polo.

The harbour also saw military tension during the Taiping Rebellion in the 1850s.

Environmental and social issues have shaped the modern harbour. In the 1970s, rapid manufacturing growth led to significant pollution concerns. Water club races actually stopped in 1973 due to this poor water quality.

Additionally, studies showed excessive nitrogen input from the Pearl River Delta. Recent years have seen controversy over land reclamation projects. These projects aim to expand the urban area but face opposition from activists. Groups like the Society for Protection of the Harbour argue that reclamation destroys natural habitats. They believe the harbour is a precious national asset that must be preserved.

Tourism and public life are deeply connected to the harbour's scenery. The skyline is famous for its view of skyscrapers over mountain ridges.

The Avenue of Stars also honors the Hong Kong film industry near the waterfront.

Transport across the harbour is essential for the city's movement. While there are no bridges, three major road tunnels connect the shores. These include the Cross-Harbour Tunnel, the Eastern Harbour Crossing, and the Western Harbour Crossing. Four Mass Transit Railway routes also run beneath the water. For a more traditional experience, the Star Ferry has crossed the water since the late 19th century.
