He helped shape the way people do ballroom dance. In 1922, he won the first World Ballroom Dancing Championship. He also helped write the rules for these dances. He wrote a book called Modern Ballroom Dancing. This book became a very big best-seller.

Later, Silvester led his own music band. His group was called the Victor Silvester Ballroom Orchestra. The band had a very special sound. It used a violin and two pianos. One piano made a light sound he called "lemonade."

He wanted his music to have a strict tempo. This means the beat stays very steady. This steady beat helped people dance perfectly. His records sold 75 million copies over many years. He even had a popular show on BBC television. He was a major star on the radio, too. People all over the world could hear his music.
