Anderson was recognized for his discovery of the positron. Hess was also awarded the Ignaz Lieben Prize in Austria in 1919. In 1959, he received the Austrian Decoration for Science and Art. These awards show how much the global scientific community valued his work. He died on December 17, 1964, in Mount Vernon, New York. He was 81 years old.
