Long ago, two sea cities fought. One was Venice. The other was Genoa. Both cities wanted to trade on the sea. They wanted to be the best.

These cities had many fights. They used ships to battle. These fights lasted a long time. They happened in the sea.

Sometimes the fights were very hard. People worked hard to help. Some women even gave their jewelry to help. This was to help their city win.

Later, the cities stopped fighting. They had to face new groups. They even worked together at times. This helped them stay safe.

It is interesting how they changed. They went from rivals to partners.
