The company works by organizing its many products into four main groups. These groups are Beauty & Wellbeing, Personal Care, Home Care, and Nutrition. They use research and development centers to find new ways to make products. These centers are located in many places like China, India, and the United States. They also have centers in the Netherlands, Pakistan, and the United Kingdom. This helps them study how to make better things for people. By doing this, they can keep making goods that people want to buy.

Unilever has a very long history that began in 1930. It was formed when two older businesses joined together. One was a Dutch company called Margarine Unie that made margarine. The other was a British company called Lever Brothers that made soap. The name Unilever comes from blending the names of these two companies.

In the 1930s, the company grew by starting new businesses in Africa and Latin America. During the Second World War, they bought businesses in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Over many years, the company grew by buying many other famous brands. In 1971, they bought Lipton, which is a well-known tea brand. They bought Brooke Bond in 1984 for £390 million. In the year 2000, they bought several big names at once. These included Ben & Jerry's, Hellmann's, Knorr, and SlimFast. They also bought the mustard brand Maille in the same year. More recently, they bought the Dollar Shave Club in 2016 for about $1 billion.

You likely use Unilever products without even knowing it. Many people eat Knorr soup or enjoy Ben & Jerry's ice cream. You might use Dove soap or Sunsilk shampoo in your bathroom. If you drink tea, you might be drinking Lipton or Pukka Herbs. Even your pet might eat food made by them. These brands are all part of the same large company. It is a way to see how one big business connects to many different parts of your life.
