An undershirt is a piece of clothing worn under a shirt.

People call it different names in different places. In America, it is an undershirt. In Britain, they call it a vest. In India, it is a baniyan. In Australia, it is a singlet.

These shirts help in many ways. They keep you warm in the winter. They also soak up sweat. This keeps your outer shirt clean and dry. An undershirt can protect your skin from itchy fabric. It also makes thin shirts less see-through.

There are many kinds to choose from. An A-shirt has no sleeves. It has large holes for the arms and neck. A T-shirt has short sleeves. Some have a V-neck. This shape hides the shirt under a buttoned collar. Other shirts have long sleeves for cold weather. A camisole is an undershirt for women. There is also a string vest. It uses mesh fabric to trap air. This helps keep the body warm.
