Unconditional love

philosophy religion Maturity 11-13 Next article →

Unconditional love is a type of love with no limits. It does not change. It does not depend on rules.

Mother's love is always unconditional and pure.

Many people say a parent's love is the best example. This love has no judgment. It means caring for someone even if they make mistakes.

Scientists study how this love works in the brain. One study used brain imaging to look at different loves. They found that maternal love, or love from a mother, feels different than romantic love. It uses parts of the brain linked to feeling good and being kind.

Many faiths also teach about this love. In Christianity, some believe God's love is a free gift. It is not something people can earn. In Buddhism, people practice loving-kindness. They try to treat all living things like their own mother would. In Islam, some believe the highest goal is to love God without wanting a reward. In Hinduism, the word bhakti describes deep devotion to a god. Even in old ideas from China, people spoke of being generous like the sky.
