It has a web of skin between its arms. This web makes it look like an open umbrella. This animal has two small fins on its mantle. The mantle is the main body of the octopus. These fins help the octopus stay steady while it swims.

These octopuses live very deep in the ocean. They stay between 3,000 and 4,000 meters down. They like to hover over the ocean floor. Some have been found 4,800 meters deep in the Pacific Ocean. They also live in the South China Sea.

To stay safe, they use special moves. They can stretch their web as wide as possible. They curve their arms to touch the ground. This makes them look like a big balloon. They can hold this pose for five and a half minutes. They also use web-inversion to defend themselves. This means they turn their arms up. This shows the bottom of their web to others. When they rest, they stay near the floor. They can rest on their sides or spread out flat.
