She became a major icon during the 1960s in London. People often call her a supermodel because of her huge fame. Her look was very special and different for that time. She had short hair and a very thin build. She also wore many layers of dark false eyelashes. This made her big eyes stand out in photos.

Her journey to fame happened very quickly in the mid-1960s. In 1966, a hairdresser named Leonard cut her hair short.

A photographer named Barry Lategan took some test photos of her. A journalist named Deirdre McSharry saw them and wrote an article. The Daily Express called her "The Face of '66." Soon, she was working all over the world. She modeled in places like France, Japan, and the United States.

Twiggy was born Lesley Hornby on September 19, 1949. She grew up in a place called Neasden in London. Her father, William, was a carpenter and joiner. Her mother, Nellie, worked in a printing factory.

Her mother even taught her how to sew clothes. This skill helped her make her own outfits. She went to the Brondesbury and Kilburn High School.

By 1967, Twiggy was a massive star in many countries. She appeared on the cover of Vogue magazine 14 times.

People were so excited that they made Twiggy pens and lunch boxes. She even had her own clothing line called "Twiggy Dresses." She earned a lot of money, sometimes £80 in just one hour. In 1967, she arrived at Kennedy Airport in New York City. The news reporters there wrote a lot about her.

After modeling, Twiggy decided to try new things. She did not want to be a "clothes hanger" forever. She became a successful actress and a singer. She won two Golden Globe Awards for her role in a musical called The Boy Friend. She also released pop and country music albums. One of her popular songs was "Here I Go Again." Later, she even appeared on the famous Muppet Show.
