It did not hit the ground. Instead, it exploded high in the sky.

The blast was very strong. It knocked down many trees in the forest.

The trees fell in a wide pattern.

People far away felt the shake. It was like a small earthquake. The sound was very loud, too.

For a few days, the night sky stayed bright. It was so bright that people could see at night! This happened because of tiny bits of ice in the air.

It was the biggest space hit ever recorded. It is a very famous event.
