The name comes from an old god named Tiw. He was a Norse god of law and justice. In other lands, the day is named for Mars. Mars is a red planet. In Japan, the name also links to Mars. In Korea, the name means "fire day."

People have many feelings about this day. In Judaism, Tuesday is a lucky day. This is because a holy book says "it was good" twice on this day. But in Greece and Spain, some think it is unlucky. This is because of the link to Mars, the god of war.

Tuesday is a busy day for many things. In the United States, people vote in elections on Tuesdays. Many video games and movies come out on this day too. In Australia, the government shares its budget on a Tuesday in May. Some people even have a special day called Giving Tuesday. This is a day to be kind and give to others.
