The TUC started in the 1860s. Its first meeting was in 1868. In the early days, leaders met to talk about big ideas. They wanted an eight-hour workday and free education. The TUC also helped start the Labour Party. This gave workers a voice in government.

Today, the TUC fights for workers' rights. They want fair pay for everyone. In 1999, they helped start the National Minimum Wage. This protects people who earn low pay. They also helped win rules for holiday time. They even helped pass a ban on smoking in public places. This keeps workers safe and healthy. The TUC also runs a museum. It tells the story of workers in the past. They work to make life better for all workers.
