Acting was a craft that Mifune took very seriously. To prepare for films like Seven Samurai, he studied how lions move in the wild. This helped him bring a wild energy to his parts. When he acted in the Mexican film Ánimas Trujano, he studied how local actors spoke. He learned enough Spanish to say all his lines perfectly. He even became so good that some people thought he was from Mexico. This dedication helped him win many awards around the world.

Mifune's journey to stardom began in the late 1940s. He was born in 1920 in a part of China held by Japan.

Before acting, he worked in his father's photography studio. He was even drafted into the army to work in aerial photography. In 1948, he joined a talent contest at Toho Studios. He was one of only 48 people chosen from 4,000 applicants. This led to his first big roles in the film industry.

He is most famous for working with director Akira Kurosawa. They made 16 movies together that are now considered classics.

Some of these famous films include Rashomon from 1950 and Yojimbo from 1961. For his work in Yojimbo, he won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor. He also played the warrior Miyamoto Musashi in a famous trilogy. These movies helped him become a star in both Japan and the West.

Mifune's influence can still be seen in movies today. He helped create the idea of the "roving warrior" character. This type of wandering hero was later used by actors like Clint Eastwood. He also worked in big Hollywood films like the movie 1941. On set, he was known for being very humble and kind. He often threw parties for his crew and helped their families.
