People called him "The Navigator." He wanted to sail around the whole world on purpose. In 1586, he set out with three ships. His main ship was named the Desire.

During his trip, he found great wealth. He captured a large Spanish ship called the Santa Ana. This ship was a galleon, which is a large sailing ship. From it, he took gold, silk, and spices. These treasures made him very rich.

He sailed through the Pacific Ocean to reach islands like Guam. He even reached the Philippines. He finished his trip around the world in 1588. This was much faster than other sailors had done before.
