Tekkan Yosano was a famous Japanese writer and poet.

He lived during the Meiji, Taishō, and early Shōwa eras. Tekkan wanted to change how people wrote poetry. He believed traditional waka poetry needed more original ideas. He hoped these changes would make poetry more popular. His work helped bring new life to Japanese literature. People still remember his big ideas today.

Tekkan used many different ways to share his words. He wrote tanka, which are very short poems. He also wrote shintaishi, or new style poems. In 1910, he published a collection called Kasi no ha. This book included his first Gogyōshi collection named Syōkyoku. Gogyōshi are poems written in exactly five lines. He even wrote essays, such as 5 Pairs of Shoes. He used these many forms to express himself.

His journey as a writer began in Kyoto. He was the son of a Buddhist priest. After he finished Keio University, he taught Japanese. He taught at Tokuyama Girls' School in Yamaguchi prefecture. This school is now part of Shunan city. Later, he moved to Tokyo at age 20. He worked as a staff writer for newspapers. This job helped him support himself in the city.

Tekkan was a leader for many other writers. In 1900, he started a magazine called Myōjō. This name means Bright Star in English. The magazine became very popular with young poets. It helped build a circle of famous people. These included poets like Kitahara Hakushū and Ishikawa Takuboku. He was also a member of the Asaka Society. This group was started by Ochiai Naobumi.

Tekkan's life was tied to other great writers. His wife was the famous author Yosano Akiko. She was a young woman named Hō Shō before they married. They both shared a deep love for literature. Their family legacy continued through their grandson, Kaoru Yosano. He became a politician in Japan. Tekkan's life shows how one person can change art. He left a lasting mark on his country.
