Teddy Wilson was a famous jazz pianist.

He was born in Austin, Texas. His parents were school teachers. He began learning the piano at age six. Later, he studied the violin, oboe, and clarinet.

Teddy had a very special way of playing. His style was gentle and elegant. He used a light touch on the keys. Many people called him a "swing pianist." This means his music had a great beat for dancing. He played with many big names in jazz. These included Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald. He also played with Billie Holiday. In 1935, he joined the Benny Goodman Trio. This was a big step for him. He was one of the first Black musicians to play in a mixed group of white and Black artists.

Teddy did more than just play in bands. He led his own groups for many years. He even formed a big band with fifteen players. Later, he taught music at the Juilliard School. He also traveled to many countries in Europe to play. He was a true master of his craft.
