He spent 19 years playing for the Boston Red Sox. Many people loved watching him hit the ball. They gave him many nicknames like "the Kid" and "the Splendid Splinter." He was a master at hitting the ball with his bat. He was also the last player to hit over .400 in a single season. This means he got a hit in 406 out of every 1,000 times he tried.

His skill made him a hero to many fans.

To become a great hitter, Ted worked very hard. He grew up in San Diego, California, playing ball with friends. His uncle Saul, a former player, taught him how to throw.

Ted also learned from other great players. He talked to legends like Rogers Hornsby to learn how to hit good pitches. He even had friendly arguments with Ty Cobb about how to swing. These lessons helped him win six batting titles. He also won the Triple Crown twice. A Triple Crown means leading the league in hits, home runs, and runs batted in.

Ted's life was not always about baseball. He had to stop playing to serve his country in two wars.

He left his baseball career for three years during World War II. When he finally returned to the Red Sox in 1946, he won an MVP award. An MVP is the Most Valuable Player in the league.
