The queen palm is a beautiful tree. It is also called the cocos palm. This palm comes from South America. People now grow it in gardens all over the world.

This tree can grow quite tall. It has long leaves that look like feathers. These leaves are called pinnate leaves. Each leaf can have 300 to 494 small parts. We call these small parts pinnae.

Many animals visit the queen palm. Birds eat the fruit pulp. They help the tree spread by moving seeds. Some birds, like toucans, swallow the fruit and then spit out the seeds.

Other animals like the seeds too. A special squirrel eats the nuts all year long. It uses its teeth to break the shells. Some bugs can also be a problem. Large moths can eat the inside of the trunk. This can sometimes kill the palm tree.
