It sits between Norrland to the north and Götaland to the south. Long ago, this was the original Sweden. The people who lived there were called Svear. This name gave us the word "Swedes."

Deep forests used to separate these lands. These woods made it hard to travel. Today, the area has many different parts. There are large lakes and many small islands. The coast has a huge group of islands called an archipelago. Two big rivers run through the land. One is the Klarälven river. It flows from Norway into Lake Vänern. The other is the Dalälven river. It runs through the land of Dalarna.

Stockholm is the largest city in Svealand. It is also the capital of Sweden. Other important cities include Uppsala and Örebro. You can find ski resorts in the southern hills. The weather changes as you move east. It gets warmer and wetter as the land gets lower. Svealand is made of six provinces. These are Dalarna, Närke, Södermanland, Uppland, Värmland, and Västmanland.
