Sustainable architecture is a way to design buildings. These buildings aim to protect our Earth. They use fewer resources like wood or metal. They also use less power to run.

Architects use many ways to save energy. Some ways are called passive systems. These use the building's location to help. For example, windows can catch sunlight for heat.

In the north, many windows face south. This helps catch the sun's warmth. In summer, trees with leaves can block the hot sun. In winter, the leaves fall off. This lets the light in.

Other buildings use active systems. These make their own power. Solar panels catch sunlight to make electricity.

Wind turbines can also catch the wind. Some buildings are off-grid. This means they do not use power from a city. They make and store their own energy.
