Susan Brownmiller was an American writer and activist. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1935. As a child, she learned about Jewish history. She saw how many people were harmed in the past. This made her want to fight against violence toward women.

Susan worked in many ways to help people. In 1964, she helped people register to vote in Mississippi. Later, she joined the Women's Liberation Movement. She joined groups to help women gain more rights. She also worked for many news groups. She wrote for the New York Times and ABC-TV.

In 1975, she wrote a famous book. The book was called Against Our Will. She spent four years studying history and crime to write it. She looked at old laws and news stories. The book argued that rape is used to make women feel fear. The New York Public Library called it a very important book. Time magazine even named her one of the Women of the Year in 1975. Susan lived a long life. She died in 2025 at the age of 90.
