It began in 1490. A leader named Yusuf Adil Shah started it. He was once a governor for a different group.

As time passed, the kingdom grew. It fought many wars with its neighbors. One big win was at the Battle of Talikota in 1565. After this win, the land grew much larger.

The capital city, Bijapur, became a very busy place. Some say one million people lived there.

The rulers loved art and building. They built grand palaces and beautiful mosques.

They also made large tombs. These buildings are famous for their special style.

But the kingdom faced many threats. It fought with the Marathas and the Portuguese. The biggest threat was the Mughal Empire. The Mughals slowly took control of the land. In 1686, the Mughals conquered Bijapur. This brought the long rule of the Adil Shahi family to an end.
