A singer from Japan named Kyu Sakamoto made a famous song.

Its real name is "Ue o Muite Arukō." The song tells a sad story. A man walks with his head up. He does this so his tears do not fall.

In many countries, people call the song "Sukiyaki." This is the name of a Japanese beef dish. The name has no link to the song. People used it because it was easy to say. It was a very big hit. Over 13 million people bought the song. It was the first song in a non-European language to reach number one in the U.S. charts.

Many artists have made their own versions. A group called A Taste of Honey made a hit in 1981. They used new English words. They even wore kimono, which is a traditional Japanese dress.

The song is very special. It was played for astronauts in space. It was even used in ads to give people hope after a big earthquake in Japan.

It remains a song that many people love.
