Studs Terkel

He lived in Chicago for most of his life. He grew up with parents who ran a hotel. Many different people visited the hotel lobby. He learned a lot by listening to them. This helped him understand how people live together.

Studs made a career out of listening. He used oral history to save stories. Oral history is a way to record people's spoken words. He interviewed many famous guests on his radio show. He also talked to regular people about their lives. He wanted everyone to have a voice. He believed every story was important.

He wrote many books about these stories. One book was called "The Good War." It was about the lives of people during World War II. This book won the Pulitzer Prize. Another book was called "Working." It was about how people feel about their jobs. He also wrote "Hard Times." That book told stories from the Great Depression. His work helps us remember the past through real voices.
